{"id":2598,"date":"2019-12-03T09:46:38","date_gmt":"2019-12-02T22:46:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/iwgwomenandsport.org\/?p=2598"},"modified":"2020-01-17T17:03:59","modified_gmt":"2020-01-17T06:03:59","slug":"iwg-welcomes-fiteq","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/old.iwgwomenandsport.org\/ar\/iwg-welcomes-fiteq\/","title":{"rendered":"NEWS: IWG Welcomes New Signatory for Brighton Declaration"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\">The newly established F\u00e9d\u00e9ration Internationale de Teqball (FITEQ) is the latest sporting federation to sign the <a href=\"https:\/\/old.iwgwomenandsport.org\/ar\/brighton-declaration\/\">Brighton plus Helsinki 2014 Declaration on Women and Sport<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\">The Declaration was signed at the Smart Cities &amp; Sport Summit in Tokyo, Japan earlier this November 2019, during a session dedicated to \u2018Gender Equality in Sport for All\u2019.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\">The session discussed steps the Sport for All movement could take to ensure gender equality at all levels in sport, and was moderated by Lilamani de Soysa, Global Executive member of the International Working Group (IWG) on Women &amp; Sport.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\">At the end of the session, the Declaration was signed by the President of FITEQ, Gabor Borsanyi, and witnessed by International Olympic Committee (IOC) member and IOC Sport &amp; Active Society Commission member Felicite Rwemarika; and Dutch National Olympic Committee (NOC) member Raymond Blondel.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\">Commenting on the reasons for signing, Mr <\/span><span style=\"font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\">Borsanyi said: \u201cFITEQ is committed to providing not only inclusive and accessible sport, but also an environment where women are treated as equals and offered equal opportunity both on and off the field. It was important for FITEQ to become a signatory to the declaration, in order to demonstrate our support of women in sport and effectively advocate the declaration\u2019s principles internationally.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\">\u201cThe signing of the declaration enforces FITEQ\u2019s commitment to the promotion of women in sport, ensuring that this value drives our day-to-day operations and long-term ambitions,\u201d he said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\">The Brighton plus Helsinki 2014 Declaration is a global treaty first drawn up by the IWG Women &amp; Sport in 1994, which has become a roadmap to support the ongoing development of a more fair and equitable system of sport and physical activity, fully inclusive of women and girls. It has 10 principles which are designed to achieve equity of opportunity for women and girls to participate, compete and build careers in sport and physical activity. It was updated at the 6<sup>th<\/sup> IWG World Conference in Helsinki in 2014.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\">In response to the signing, co-Chair of the International Working Group on Women and Sport Secretariat &amp; Conference 2018 \u2013 2022, Raewyn Lovett ONZM, said: \u201cOn behalf of the IWG, we would like to congratulate the F\u00e9d\u00e9ration Internationale de Teqball on becoming a signatory to the Brighton plus Helsinki 2014 Declaration, and we look forward to working with them in the future.
