IWG New Zealand Secretariat (Women in Sport Aotearoa)<\/a> is delighted to announce Peta Forrest has been appointed to the new full-time role of Marketing & Communications Manager. She will be responsible for supporting and delivering Women in Sport Aotearoa’s global engagement as host agency for the International Working Group (IWG) on Women & Sport Secretariat and Conference 2018 \u2013 2022.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Peta joins the Women in Sport Aotearoa team from Sky Television New Zealand, where she worked as the Internal Communications & Engagement Manager for 3+ years, leading the overall communications and engagement programme for 1,100 employees. She led several campaigns and events for staff, including the communications programme for the COVID-19 response team, and successfully launched Sky\u2019s internal social network (Workplace by Facebook).<\/span><\/p>\n

As Women in Sport Aotearoa’s Marketing & Communications Manager, Peta will lead the national and international marketing and communications programme that supports Women in Sport Aotearoa<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0IWG\u2019s<\/a> strategic plans. She will be responsible for building the profile of and engagement with IWG through its key events and activities such as the 2022 IWG Conference<\/a>,\u00a0Women + Girls Summit<\/a>\u00a0and next month\u2019s\u00a0Captains Lunch.\u00a0<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n

Peta will also work closely with Women in Sport Aotearoa’s new\u00a0Digital & Community Coordinator Shanee Kiriau<\/a>. The duo will be leading the charge on the digital and content front, including the launch of a local and global\u00a0Insight Hub<\/a> designed to help connect, educate and empower our international community for gender equality.<\/span><\/p>\n

Rachel Froggatt, Chief Executive of Women in Sport Aotearoa and Secretary General of the International Working Group (IWG) on Women & Sport said:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cPeta is highly anticipated and very welcome new addition to the WISPA and IWG team, as we steadily continue our preparations to stage the 8th<\/sup> IWG World Conference on Women & Sport in Auckland and online next May 2022. From the moment we met her, Peta impressed us with her passion, knowledge and background. There was an instant chemistry fit and given the year we have ahead of us, putting together a team that will work hard but also have fun together was a key part of our strategy. We have no doubt that Peta will be an instant hit with our partners and network and we can\u2019t wait to see her future impact on our work.\u201d\u00a0<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

Peta Forrest, Marketing & Communications Manager said:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWhen I saw this role advertised, I couldn\u2019t believe my luck. It ticked a whole lot of boxes for me and I immediately knew this would be an organisation and significant piece of work that would spark joy for me. I\u2019m most excited about the variety of projects and initiatives I get to be part of that help ensure women and girls feel supported, valued and \u2018seen\u2019 in the sports sector.\u201d<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI was fortunate to have grown up with good access to sporting opportunities which meant playing 3 codes all in one year. I had to eventually focus on one throughout high school but once I got to university I could no longer afford the fees. As a student living week to week, it meant some of those \u2018nice to haves\u2019 like playing club sports were shelved temporarily.\u00a0 By the time I started working I\u2019d lost the momentum I had in high school to pick up any sport or regular activity again. It\u2019s only been in recent years that I\u2019ve started to play sports more socially again and for me, this is clearly an issue – not just for women either.\u201d\u00a0<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cMy personal experience isn\u2019t unique to me and so I\u2019m looking forward to working with WISPA and its key partners to ensure New Zealanders know the opportunities that exist in this sector and can access and overcome the barriers to participating and engaging in sports, physical and recreational activity.\u201d\u00a0<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

Peta started her career with YMCA Auckland New Zealand before moving to Triathlon New Zealand, where she was responsible for the overall strategy and events marketing of the 2016 national triathlon series. When she\u2019s not thinking of ways to put ideas into action, Peta can be heard on the sideline of her brother\u2019s rugby matches, enjoying a game of 5-aside netball, mentoring young women and songwriting.<\/span><\/p>\n
