{"id":7293,"date":"2024-08-13T19:39:06","date_gmt":"2024-08-13T09:39:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/iwgwomenandsport.org\/?p=7293"},"modified":"2024-08-13T19:39:06","modified_gmt":"2024-08-13T09:39:06","slug":"iwg-attends-unescos-change-the-game-forum","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/old.iwgwomenandsport.org\/ar\/iwg-attends-unescos-change-the-game-forum\/","title":{"rendered":"IWG Attends UNESCO\u2019s \u2018Change The Game\u2019 Forum"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\">In the week building up to the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, the IWG attended UNESCO\u2019s \u2018Change The Game\u2019 Forum at their headquarters in Paris.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\">The two-day event brought together over 500 policy makers and senior sports leaders from around the world and provided insightful discussions around the transformative power of sport for sustainable development.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\">The Partners\u2019 Forum, held on day one of the event, advocated for and illustrated the social impacts of investments in sport policies and programmes. It also featured the launch of UNESCO\u2019s \u2018<a href=\"https:\/\/unesdoc.unesco.org\/ark:\/48223\/pf0000390603\">Social Impact of Sport Report\u2019<\/a>, which helped to set the scene for a series of sessions exploring topics related to investment in sport through people, infrastructure and innovation.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\">The following day, at the Ministerial Forum, UNESCO hosted a major gathering of high-level sport policymakers. This event brought together government representatives from the fields of sport, education and equality, alongside sport professionals, educators and civil society actors with the aim to identify commitments to strengthen the social impact of sport. This coincided with the publication of their <a href=\"https:\/\/unesdoc.unesco.org\/ark:\/48223\/pf0000390590?posInSet=1&amp;queryId=17dad6e6-3486-4c5f-af6e-4af1784a1041\">\u2018Sport and Gender Equality Game Plan\u2019<\/a> which provides guidelines for gender-transformative sport policies and programmes.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\">Lisa O\u2019Keefe MBE, Secretary General of IWG Women and Sport, said: \u201cHaving a multi-stakeholder global sports conference on this scale is so important in the push towards gender equality and equity within sport, and a huge thanks to UNESCO for driving this work forwards.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\">\u201cThe IWG enjoys a strong strategic partnership with UNESCO, so I\u2019m pleased our Chair Annamarie Phelps CBE OLY and our Head of Strategic Communications Abby Burton were able to support them by being in attendance at this \u2018Change The Game\u2019 Forum.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\">\u201cIt was fantastic to hear the Forum was a success, with global leaders in attendance alongside influential stakeholders, and some important discussion topics across the two days.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\">\u201cIt was also great to see the publication of their \u2018Sport and Gender Equality Game Plan\u2019 which serves to highlight the on-going gender gap within sport and provides some excellent tools and examples of best practice to address these inequalities.
