Taiwan Parliamentary Women’s Sports Diplomacy Committee becomes the latest signatory to the IWG Brighton plus Helsinki Declaration<\/span><\/h1>\n

IWG is delighted to welcome the Taiwan Parliamentary Women’s Sports Diplomacy Committee as the latest signatory to the Brighton plus Helsinki Declaration.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Taiwan Parliamentary Women’s Sports Diplomacy Committee seeks to combine parliamentary diplomacy with women\u2019s sports, enabling more international partners to witness their athletic achievements and commitment to the values of gender equality. The Committee also actively supports women and girls in demonstrating their expertise and passion in the field of sports, fully aligning with the 10 principles of the IWG Brighton Plus Helsinki Declaration.<\/span><\/p>\n

Taking place at the headquarters of the Chinese Taipei Olympic Committee, the Declaration was signed by Legislator Huang Jie, Chair of the Taiwan Parliamentary Women\u2019s Sports Diplomacy Committee with Professor Elizabeth Pike representing IWG in her role as Research Lead.<\/span><\/p>\n

Speaking after the signing, Legislator Huang Jie said: \u201cAs a committee, we serve to assist women\u2019s sports teams in fundraising for international competitions, and we have supported multiple petitions from women\u2019s sports unions. These efforts include securing equal participation fees for female athletes as their male counterparts, ensuring safe venues for women\u2019s sporting events, and advocating for better logistical support for athletes. We also have plans to introduce legal amendments to strengthen women\u2019s representation within Taiwan\u2019s various sports associations.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWe are proud to showcase Taiwan\u2019s commitment to gender equity in sport, and this Declaration empowers us to put that belief into practice.\u201d<\/span><\/strong><\/h4>\n

Lisa O\u2019Keefe MBE said: \u201cI am thrilled the IWG has been able to add the Taiwan Parliamentary Women’s Sports Diplomacy Committee as the latest signatory to the Brighton plus Helsinki Declaration.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThank you to Professor Elizabeth Pike for facilitating the signing. The visit gave us an insight into the work of the Committee and its impact around their advocacy work.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cThe IWG Global Summit 2026 is now only 10 months away, and I\u2019m excited to meet and learn more from the Taiwan delegation who will be in attendance, and I am in no doubt will contribute so meaningfully to the Summit.\u201d<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n
