World Curling<\/strong> has officially signed the Brighton Plus Helsinki Declaration, reinforcing their dedication to promoting gender equality within the sport – both on and off the ice.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Established by the IWG in 1994, this global treaty is now supported by more than 600 organisations, including International Federations, National Governing Bodies, and other sporting organisations, all working together to create a more inclusive sporting landscape.<\/p>\n

World Curling has taken continuous steps to ensure diversity and equity across all levels of the sport. In 2023, they formed the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Working Group to enhance awareness and provide guidance on embedding DEI values across curling programmes and initiatives. Additionally, their Athlete Commission now includes gender-based representation, and actively encourages diversity within Member Associations at our Annual General Meetings.<\/p>\n

World Curling President, Beau Welling, emphasised the importance of this commitment:<\/p>\n

“It’s important to World Curling that we are a signatory of the Brighton Plus Helsinki Declaration. This marks a significant step forward in our commitment and collective responsibility to foster inclusivity, equality, and growth within curling. By signing this treaty, we pledge to ensure that curling remains a welcoming place for all.”<\/h4>\n

Lisa O\u2019Keefe MBE, Secretary General of IWG, welcomed World Curling\u2019s continued focus on gender balance:<\/p>\n

“It\u2019s a pleasure to announce World Curling as the latest signatory of the Brighton Plus Helsinki Declaration as an indication of their ongoing commitment to gender equality. World Curling\u2019s \u2018The Way Forward\u2019 strategic plan highlighted increasing diversity on the board and addressing gender equality as areas for strategic focus back in 2020, and since then they have established a Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Working Group to raise awareness and support gender balance initiatives. We look forward to working with World Curling as they continue to develop their action plan and sharing their brilliant work with the wider IWG network.”<\/h4>\n
